Who we are

Why ‘Veera’?
Our Vision

Not many people are able to understand why I chose ‘Veera’ for a feminist project. For many, this term is associated with masculine bravery. Nobody knows how this association came about since neither books nor scriptures over the ages, have implied so.

In and of itself, “Veera” stands for bravery and courage, irrespective of gender. When I asked my mother, she thought of “Veerangana”, the bravery and courage of intersectional feminists to stand up for themselves and other oppressed communities against the patriarchal paradigm.

Veera, as I envision it, is valiant equality, fearlessly empowering all genders, giving them the right to freedom, right to education and awareness, the right to LIVE.

This determination is what we look for in our Veeras, bold people, irrespective of gender, who use their art and voice to stand up for the cause of marginalized communities everywhere.

“Veera” seeks to break free of the patriarchal associations with it, encouraging everyone to embrace this quality within themselves. “Veera” seeks to establish gender equality, neutrality and inclusivity; like the term “feminism” itself which is often misunderstood to pertain to just women but rather stands for equality for all sexes.

Our vision is not limited to just a brand of T-shirts. Rather, ‘Veera’ will achieve its vision through various art forms to spark social change among society’s youth and bringing crucial, relevant social messages to the forefront. By upholding the ideals of equality and freedom of expression, we will mobilize the movement for the emancipation of women and LGBTQ members in India and across the world.

Veera, in collaboration with the Walmart group, is currently working towards establishing its brand through t-shirts, designed by our global fraternity of artists.

The profits raised by the sales of these T-shirts will be contributed towards Shakti Shalini, a notable organization established in 1987, which has been actively supporting survivors and fights against gender/sexual violence, promoting individual agency, dignity, and equality between all genders.

Our Art

Join Us

By demonstrating our support for and empowering women and the LGTBQ community across all national or cultural boundaries, we aim to bring about the change so desperately needed. We need more Veeras to represent our support for the communities we seek to empower in order to construct a more inclusive society.

‘Art, in all its forms, has the power to spark change. Veera’ is open to all allies and artists who wish to contribute towards this cause. This social change can be harnessed through different forms of art, ranging from monochromatic mandala to colorful abstract artworks, to name a few.
